Rutile type welding Electrodes
In this type, about 35% in weight of the coating is titanium dioxide (TiO2) facilitates arc ignition, makes it possible to work with a soft arc and reduces spatter. This electrode type is used for general purposes where good welding properties are required. This is the universal electrode which may perform welding in every position, using AC or DC current.

Basic Electrodes: The coating of this type of electrode consists of calcium fluoride plus calcium and other alkaline carbonates. The coating is mostly thick. These substances make to slag more viscose and fast freezing, thus enabling overhead and vertical position applications. When welding, basic electrodes are generally connected to the positive pole with DC.

Cellulosic Electrodes: The coating of these electrodes contains organic materials that turn into gases in the arc. About 30% of the coating weight is cellulose. Organic compounds in the coating decompose in the arc to from carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen, which increase the arc tension and thus, the welding arc becomes stronger and harder. Compared with other types of electrodes, with the same current values, a 70% deeper penetration is obtained with cellulosic electrodes.

Electrodes for welding of High tensile & low alloy steels: Basic (lime) coated electrode is designed for welding of high strength low alloyed (HSLA) steels. It gives Ni-Cu alloyed weld metal with crack resistant and high toughness. Specifically formulated for easy slag removal, strike and re-strike characteristics and low spattering.

Stainless Steel Welding Electrodes: These electrodes may have a rutile or basic coating. Basic coated ones are only used with DC (+). These electrodes have various types since they are used for welding martensitic, ferritic, austenitic, and corrosion-resistant steels which compositions differ from each other.

Hard Surfacing Electrodes: Some machinery parts may get out of shape due to one or more wearing mechanisms such us abrasion, adhesion, erosion, fatigue or corrosion. build-up welding is used advantageously for these and for the rebuilding of broken parts. As it can be performed with ease in most welding workshops, the most widely used building- up method is hard surfacing with coated electrodes. Hard surfacing welding with coated electrodes is done with a rather low current, short length of arc and the electrode held nearly perpendicular to the work piece. Hard facing electrodes of high quality melt easily at low currents and provide a wide seam.

Cast Iron Welding Electrodes: Cast iron may only be welded by specially designed electrodes having particular chemical, metallurgical and mechanical properties. These electrodes are mainly divided in two groups: one gives a weld metal composition which is completely different than that of the base metal, and second group of electrodes includes pure nickel, nickel-based and copper-based electrodes When welding with this type of electrodes (Nickel-Copper alloys), lowest possible welding currents should be selected to minimize the mixing of the filler metal with that of the base metal. These electrodes are used for second degree joints and special Hard facing applications on cast iron.Prima Cast Alloy, Prima Nickeloy, Prima Cast Alloy Monel, Prima Cast Alloy (Non Machineable) .

Cutting & Gauging Electrodes : Specially produced acidic, rutile, cellulosic and iron powder electrodes 4 to 6 mm in diameter produce a cutting or gauging arc with a current intensity of 60-70 A/mm. The arc produced by these electrodes releases a high pressure gas stream from the fast burning of the material in the coating, this gas stream removes the molten metal. The cut edges are rough and need scale removal and machining afterwards.

GMAW Wires : Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a welding process which joins metals by heating the metals to their melting point with an electric arc. The arc is between a continuous, consumable electrode wire and the metal being welded. The arc is shielded from contaminants in the atmosphere by a shielding gas. The essential feature of the process is the small diameter electrode wire, which is fed continuously into the arc from a coil. As a result this process can produce quick and neat welds over a wide range of joints. Shielding Gas may vary as per the applications generally used gases are CO2, , Argon or the mixture of both.
